What will we learn about?

  • A halter is a leather, webbing, or rope headstall. It is used with a lead rope to lead a horse from the ground. Some halters can also be used to tie the horse for grooming or tacking up.

  • Grooming is vital to make sure you keep your horse healthy and happy. Proper grooming not only cleans their coats, but adds beauty to their appearance. It also promotes healthy emotional bonding and trust between the horse and its keeper. Grooming should be done on a regular basis to keep a horse's coat and skin healthy. Thankfully, most horses love to be groomed!

  • Picking out a horse hoof means removing mud, bedding, and any stones compacted in the underside of the hoof. We’ll teach you how to properly use a tool called a hoof pick to make sure everything stays clean and free of debris. Picking out hooves is a very important skill, and should be done daily, before and after riding, to help keep the horse sound.

  • Owning a horse is a big responsibility and includes taking care of your horse's health. Sometimes, you may have to bandage your horse's legs to protect or cover an injured area, manage swelling or movement, or supply warmth to injured tendons and ligaments. We’ll show you the right way to wrap!

  • Do you want to know what to feed your beloved equine friend? There are a number of different concentrated feeds available, and it’s important to know the right food to give your horse. We’ll teach you about the different types of feed and how they can best benefit your horse during different stages in life.
